There is a common theme amongst the homes in Karpathos in regards to their style, appearance, structure, and decor. Although it is becoming quite popular to renovate homes with modern looks, the majority of them have kept their unique traditional style and antique furniture. Karpathian homes have kept and maintained the σουφά which can be found in the living room. In the old days, families would actually sleep on the σουφά, and below it, there was a closet also known as the αποθήκη. While it used to be very practical, today it is kept, due to the sentimental value it holds. Nowadays, it is used formally, as Karpathian brides may sit on the σουφά and get photographed as relatives and friends sing μαντινάδες (Karpathian wishes in song that rhyme as well). It is a valuable part of Karpathian culture and tradition. Most Karpathian homes also can be described to have an antique look, which only shows the times in which they were purchased and how wonderful it is today, that people still use them. Everything from the frames, coffee tables, and couches to the organized kitchen and bedrooms showcases this style. In addition, Roman columns, blue colors, and florals are also a part of the indoor home decor and theme. We have found many similar looks and products to showcase the Karpathian style, to share some inspiration!
