If you’re one of the many Karpathians living in NJ/NY, you must crave a taste of chicken gyro, a sip of ούζο , and a bite of γαλακτομπούρεκο, now and again! While there are many restaurants that claim to be skilled in Greek cuisine, Karpathians crave that special something. Some of us, miss it so much, we tend to add tzatziki to everything from our chicken and rice, to our pasta, even if it doesn’t make sense! LOL But that’s not good enough! We crave the Greek music, people and food all at once. And all because it’s hard to find a restaurant that feels like home! And yes, many places try to imitate that and the food, but few actually create the original Greek flavors, only a Greek could recognize. Thankfully, there are many restaurants today, that satisfy. So we have decided to list some of our favorite Greek restaurants, some even owned by Karpathians, so that you can too experience the amazing Greek dining experience NJ/NY restaurants has to offer! - Varka Restaurant – Owned by Peter Mastorakos, and known for it’s amazing display of seafood in a traditional Greek boat a.k.a Varka.
- The Avra Group – Owned by Nick Tsoulos and Nick Pashalis, known for a diverse variety of dishes that include the Greek hits meals such as σπανακόπιτα, καλαμάρι, but also combined with many classic NY favorites.
- Stamna Greek Taverna – Owned by Alex Nissirios, and known for it’s popular Greek dishes, family friendly environment, and wonderful ambiance.
- Estia Restaurant – Owned by Pete and Nick Pashalis, and known for an upscale menu that carries everything a Greek could want, ranging from κεφτέδες, καλαμάρι to σαγανάκι and ντολμάδες!
